Job Summary:
This Position is with Exceed Medical (“Exceed”). The Cardiovascular Intensivist is a licensed and board certified/board eligible physician who independently and collaboratively works with the multidisciplinary team to provide comprehensive care to acutely ill and/or medically complex patients in the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit. This Position offers a unique opportunity to work in a dedicated cardiovascular intensive care unit within a level 1 trauma center and a supported ECPR program. This
Position involves direct patient care, leadership in cardiovascular care protocols, and contributions to clinical education and research.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
● Manage critically ill patients in the CVICU and CTICU.
● Participate in the Shock Team, PERT Team, and ECPR.
● Cannulate and manage patients on VA and VV ECMO.
● Oversee care for patients receiving Impella, RVAD, and other temporary MCS devices.
● Perform bedside procedures, including:
– TEE
– POCUS
– Pulmonary artery catheter placement
– Large-bore vascular access
● Collaborate daily with Advanced Practice Providers, Cardiothoracic Surgery, and
Cardiology
● Demonstrate knowledge of etiologies, risk factors, pathophysiology, and presentation of cardiac medical conditions.
● Perform a comprehensive or problem-focused history and physical assessment for critically ill adult patients that is accurate and complete.
● Analyze and synthesize patient data using critical thinking and evidence-based medicine.
● Order, interpret, and evaluate diagnostic tests to accurately assess patient needs and formulate treatment plans.
● Prescribe and manage pharmacological treatments with careful monitoring for efficacy and safety.
● Develop and implement evidence-based, outcome-focused treatment strategies in collaboration with an interdisciplinary team.
● Continuously assess and adjust treatment plans based on patient progress and response to therapy.
● Provide education, counseling, and support to patients and their families regarding conditions and treatment plans.
● Maintain thorough, accurate, and timely documentation within electronic medical records.
● Participate in teaching and training Advanced Practice Providers, physician trainees, and other healthcare professionals.
● Ensure compliance with all regulatory and institutional protocols, including timely and accurate billing documentation.
● Engage in continuing medical education and stay updated on the latest advancements in cardiovascular critical care.
● Contribute to research initiatives and quality improvement projects to enhance patient care and outcomes.
Job Requirements:
● Medical degree (MD or DO) from an accredited institution.
● Must have a National Provider Identifier (NPI) or secure one prior to the commencement of employment and comply with current Medicare billing requirements.
● Current DEA Registration is required for schedules 2, 2N, 3, 3N, 4, and 5, along with appropriate state-issued prescribing authority.
● Board certified or board eligible in Critical Care Medicine.
● Extensive experience or strong interest in Cardiac and Cardiothoracic ICU medicine.
● Comfortable or willing to learn procedures such as ECMO cannulation, RP Flex Impella
placement, and TEE.
● Willingness to become independent in ECMO management and cannulation.
● Eligible for medical licensure in Texas.
● Valid and unrestricted medical license in the state of practice.
● Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
● Strong clinical skills and ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team.
● Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
● Professional, affable demeanor with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
